    Description

    The stamp was designed by Dr. Kowaniec and Dr. Ribiczek, refugees from the Czech Protectorate, and by Gurewicz, Natansohn and Lurie. It depicts Mordechai Chaim Rumkowksi in profile, superimposed on a Star of David. The value of this stamp was five pfenning. The text, in German and Yiddish reads: 'Postal Department of the Elder of the Jews, Litzmannstadt Ghetto.' (Source: Ghetto Fighters' House Archives)
